Does where you live matter? I think it does matter but we are caught up in everyday schedules and to-do lists that we do not pay attention to our home and the role it plays in our mental health. Perhaps pondering about what you love about your home, your city or your neighborhood will lead to appreciation and peace. Perhaps it will lead you to create better spaces at your home, remind you to get outside or nudge you to move so you can create your joy.
Here is a list of possibilities to ponder so you can decide what fuels your passions:
- Living close to work allows for more time and less commuting
- Walking distance to public transportation gives you the ability to save on gas
- Living close to family results in more time together
- Near hiking trails or lakes or parks allows you to enjoy the outdoors more often
- Being close to the right schools for your children gives you peace of mind
- Having great neighbors results in community
- Each room in your home creates a space for peace or fun or memories
- Living near the arts, museums, theaters or sports complexes allows you to enjoy those passions
- Porches and Patios filled with gardens or flowers for outdoor enjoyment
- Finding your place to volunteer near your home brings purpose
I hope these ideas allow you to take a deep breath and consider what you can do to make everyday living a little better. Afterall, there’s no place like home and home is what you make it!
